How to Use Affirmations So They Really Work: Tip #1

Targeted Affirmation Tip #1: Creating Intentions: Intend to Have What You Want In recent years, there has been a lot of backlash against affirmations. Many people believe that they don't really work. I believe the reason for this is because many people tried what seemed like a great idea, didn't do it quite right, and then became discouraged. I'm actually one of those people! I've been getting a lot of questions about affirmations lately, so I decided to revisit this topic. My Personal Affirmation Failure I started using affirmations when I was in the seventh grade. I remember having a small book about positive thinking that recommended using affirmations to feel happier and more relaxed. I was feeling very sad and anxious at the time, and repeating the affirmations really wasn't working for me. I remember reading affirmations to myself like: "I feel good" "I deserve to feel good" "I feel relaxed" And they really didn't help me to feel any better. In fact, reading the affirmations frustrated me. I would say the affirmation and just feel worse, because it didn't match what I was actually feeling. It felt shallow somehow, like I was trying to fix something within me on a surface level without digging deeper. Have you ever had this experience using affirmations? Maybe our society and knowledge of how to use techniques like this is evolving, because I don't remember ever reading anything about how affirmations don't work, when I was younger. Everyone just seemed so excited to have a new technique to use. There wasn't a whole lot of talk about how to do it correctly, so that it actually works. Why Affirmations Don't Work (Sometimes)

7 Helpful Benefits of Living Consciously

I had always known that living consciously was an important practice in my life, but I wasn't always aware of how many things it could be applied to for life improvement. One day, I sat down and made a list of all the things I work with people on in my coaching practice. I was looking for a common theme. Once I looked at the list, it was very clear that living consciously is a theme that runs through all areas I use to improve my life and the lives of others Here are the 7 Most Common areas where you can benefit from Living Consciously: 1) Deep Relaxation Many people are drawn to living consciously or mindfulness in order to cope better with anxiety. But even people who are not suffering from anxiety can increase their awareness about when they need to slow down and find a space for relaxation. This can be tough in our fast-paced culture! There are dozens of meditation techniques for achieving deep relaxation. If you try one and it doesn't work for you, rest assured that there is surely one that will. Techniques for relaxation often make us more anxious and restless at first. This is because anxiety is often the first emotion that comes up when you start to settle down. In fact, the more anxious you are, the busier you tend to be to distract yourself. Would you like to feel a taste of deep relaxation right now? Try this 3 Step Technique: 1) Inhale while counting slowly to 4 2) Hold your breath while you count to 7 3) Exhale while counting to 9 I find when I do this even just once, I feel much more relaxed!

Are You Settling?

I've been thinking about the concept of settling a lot lately. I'm someone that dreams big dreams, but there are moments where the dreams seem less possible, where I find myself wavering, and wondering if it's easier just to settle into mediocrity. I've noticed that most people expect mediocrity. I've noticed that sharing big dreams with the wrong people can be hurtful to your soul. There are those who will think it's ridiculous to dream big. They will make you feel like you are being too extravagant or expecting too much. They will tell you so directly or just simply begin reacting in a hostile way. Realize that they do this, because if they were to accept your dreams and desires as possible, they would have to challenge themselves and mediocrity too. But be careful. Don't walk away with their words whispering to you, that you're being ridiculous or unreasonable or expecting too much. You're not. You deserve the very best, so much more than you can probably even imagine. Everyone does. And each person is responsible for creating her own destiny and manifesting her own magical dreams.

Waiting for Your Life to Begin?

So many of us are not living in the present moment. But we are living in the future, thinking: Everything will change when.... My life will begin when... I'll be able to do that when... We all know the fallacy of this intellectually. And yet, it's easy to convince yourself that your situation is different. It's easy to deny this truth. You think,"But I really am having a difficult time right now. I really can't do xxxx right now. Things really will change when..." I recently had a big epiphany about this. I fell into this trap too. I was planning a move and really believed that so much would become simpler when I finally moved. I believed it would be easier to accomplish all my goals after the move. The move itself was the means to the end for me, to find a resting place to finally do all the things I planned. I put some things in my life on hold to focus on the move. And Life true to form, of course, surprised me. There is a law of the counterintuitive prevailing. Here are some examples:

The holidays are such a stressful time of year, because in addition to everything you normally have to do, suddenly there are so many more expectations. Some of them are pleasant, such as having more parties to attend or trips planned, and some are simply extra work involving locating gifts and cooking food. Meditative techniques are a great way to de-stress and recharge, especially during a period when you feel you can't afford to.

Creating a Map to Manifest Your Goal

Here is a way to imagine this, so you can see how powerful this technique is. Imagine that someone just told you that there is a briefcase full of millions of dollars setting on a porch step in the city you live in, waiting for you to come claim it. The only problem is that you don't know where it is exactly. Getting to the briefcase could be a challenging experience, but you know that if you had a map and your questions about how to get there answered, you could definately get there and claim your briefcase! Having a map creates a bridge between you and your desired outcome.
